Obituary

SALEM - Helen L. Hawes, 64, of Salem, formerly of East Boston, wife of the late William R. Hawes, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Mass General Hospital, Boston, following a brief illness.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Maria E. (Nugent) Lane of Lebanon, ME and the late Maxwell Lane and was a resident of East Boston until moving to Salem 3 years ago.

Until her recent illness, she was employed in the offices at Mass General Hospital, Boston for the past 7 years. She previously worked for over 15 years at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.

Mrs Hawes enjoyed quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, William & Suzanne Hawes of Gloucester, 1 daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Matt Lefebvre of Salem, and with whom she resided, 2 grandchildren, Matthew Lefebvre of Salem, Ruby Hawes of Gloucester, 1 brother, William and his wife Mary Lane of Tewksbury, 1 sister, Nancy & her husband Ray Dyson of Milford, OH, a sister-in-law, Jo D’Ambrosio of E. Boston, 1 niece and 1 nephew. She was the sister of the late Matthew Lane.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at 10 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday, 5 to 8 pm.
