Obituary

DARTMOUTH … Wilfred Garner Morrison, age 91, of Russell’s Mills Village, died Tuesday, September 26, unexpectedly, at home. He was the husband of the late Virginia Borden Morrison and the son of the late Ruth Pedro Morrison and David D. Morrison.
Born in Dartmouth, Wilfred worked at the Gonet Farm, the former Continental Screw Company and was a longtime fixture at Davoll’s General Store in Dartmouth.
Among his passions was his membership in the District Two Fire Department where he was present at its creation and later the chief; also, were his years as a member of Noquochoke Lodge where he was the oldest living Past Master. His lifetime membership at Allen’s Neck Quaker Meeting saw him in the roles of clambake master, clerk, member of the ministry and council, along with building and grounds committees.
During the war, he was also part of the beach patrol in the Coast Guard Temporary Reserve; but most of all, he loved the people who came to visit at Davoll’s General Store.
Survivors include two daughters: Beverly Morrison Glennon and her husband Joseph R. Glennon of South Dartmouth; Lee Morrison Shipley and her husband John Shipley of South Berwick, ME; a brother Kenneth Morrison and his wife Bridget of South Dartmouth; a grandchild Troy Morrison Shipley and his wife Brandie of Colorado Springs, CO. He was brother of the late June Morrison-Wilcock and brother-in-law of the late Joseph Wilcock.
A memorial service, a celebration of life, will be held at Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting House, 739 Horseneck Road, South Dartmouth, on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wilfred Morrison Scholarship Fund, c/o The Prudential Committee, Fire District #2 Russell’s Mills Road, P.O. Box 106 South Dartmouth, MA 02714 or Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting House, c/o Treasurer, Clambake Grove, 363 Pine Hill Road, Westport, MA 02790. A memorial garden in his name is being planted at Davolls’ General Store if you would like to participate.
