Mignon “Tina” Gresham Dorminey, 82, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at the Ocilla Baptist Church with Rev. Jesse Alligood officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4 PM in Wisteria Cemetery, Union Point, GA. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Dorminey was born December 10, 1923, in Union Point, Georgia, to the late Percy C. and Nell Harris Gresham. She was a 1940 graduate of Greensboro High School. She met her future husband, Dr. Arthur Leroy Dorminy at the University of Georgia and was married in 1948. She attended Georgia Southern College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Elementary Education before moving to Ocilla in 1950. She taught school in Monticello, Monroe and Irwin County. Mrs. Dorminey was a member and pillar of Ocilla Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, worked with the G.A.s and Vacation Bible School. She was an avid reader and supporter of the Irwin County Library, a member of the Ocilla Book Club, and a founder of the Irwin County Arts Council. Mrs. Dorminey was of great assistance in the development and ongoing support of Christian Veterinary Missions. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a former Cub Scout Den Mother. Sensing the needs of others, she was always ready to help people who were less fortunate.
Mrs. Dorminey is survived by her husband: Dr. A.L. Dorminy of Ocilla; sons and daughters-in-law: Blair & Betsy Dorminey of Athens and Bruce & Susan Dorminey of Valdosta; grandson: Sterling Dorminey of Athens; brother: William C. “Bill” Gresham, Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Ocilla Baptist Church, Irwin County Library or to Christian Veterinary Missions.
