Obituary

WORCESTER____Ann H. (Chiras) Mattson, formerly of 24 ½ Esther St., died Friday September 29 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Carl G. Mattson who died in 1967 with whom she was married to for 33 years.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Cashman, her son-in-law, James J. Cashman, a sister, Helen Purtle of South Boston; she also leaves three grandchildren, Scott, Gary and James “Jay” Cashman and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, John, Isadore and Louis Chiras and a sister, Mary Collins. Born in Brockton and raised in Worcester, Ann was the daughter of the late John W. and Ellen H. (Yeskevich) Chiras.

Mrs. Mattson attended public schools and worked as a domestic for St. Agnes Guild. She also worked as a waitress for several area eating establishments. Her hobbies were crocheting, crossword puzzles, cribbage, board games, gardening and polka music. Ann loved life, especially children, she will be remembered for her famous “gum drop tree”.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday October 3 from DIRSA – MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday October 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Church Renovation Fund, 41 Providence St., Worcester, MA 01604.
