Obituary

ALTON --- Herbert Roy “Herbie” Jackson, 85, of Youngtown Road, died Monday, October 26, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones.

Born September 3, 1941, in Melrose, MA, to Bertice E. and Alice (Munn) Jackson, he was the fifth of nine children.

Herbie loved his family most of all. A high-school hockey captain, he later helped start peewee hockey in his hometown with one of his brothers. He taught each of his children to play and built a skating rink at home where they could enjoy hockey together. He also led the family in gardening and farming, interests many of his children still share. He loved card games, especially Whist and Cribbage, and family tournaments became a tradition as the family grew.

Another of Herbie’s great passions was knowing the Creator God, who loves all mankind. Studying the Bible convinced him that many people did not clearly understand Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection to pay sin’s penalty for all. Wanting everyone to know, he opened his home for Bible studies and taught Bible studies at the prison in Concord for many years.

Knowing people in many countries had never heard about God or the Bible, he also traveled on mission trips to Papua New Guinea, Brazil, Bolivia, and Africa, taking at least one of his children on each journey to give them a better view of the world.

Herbie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kerry; sons Scott (Teresa), Jonathan (Melissa), and Micah (Susan); daughters Laurie Kneeland (Jeff), Ruth Kane (Benjamin), and Leah Lang (Andrew); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers and two sisters; daughters Beth Everson and Joanna Bergman; and
granddaughter Danielle Jackson.

There will be a memorial service November 7, at 2:00 at Park St. Baptist Church, Pittsfield, NH.

If you would like, the family suggests memorial donations in Herbie’s name be made to Ethnos 360, 312 West First St., Sanford, FL 32771-1231, to be put toward the printing of Bibles.
