In Loving Memory
Florabelle Thatcher
Florabelle June (Dodson) Thatcher of East Falmouth, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026 at the age of 98. Born on May 30, 1928 in Vintondale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Russell Elvin Dodson and Lillian Mae (Rosner) Dodson. She was a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies in 1951 and a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1986. She married Robert Hugh Thatcher in 1951 and they moved to Falmouth, Massachusetts in 1955 where she lived ever since.
Florabelle dedicated her life to God, her family, and helping others. Her faith allowed her to remain joyful and strong through difficult times. She always saw the best in others and became a friend and trusted advisor to many. She worked as a Counselor at the Emerson House in Falmouth, was a founder of the Foundation Stone, a non-profit counseling service, and founding member of the Falmouth Nazarene Church.
Florabelle loved music. At the age of 12, she learned to play piano—one gospel song a week—and played each Sunday at her church in Vintondale since no one else could play. She also learned the guitar and accordion. During her high school years, she was part of a “Singing Evangelists” duet that performed in churches in western Pennsylvania and Kentucky. She had a beautiful alto voice and continued to play and sing at many of the churches she attended throughout her life.
She is survived by her children Becky Thatcher, Russell (Wendy) Thatcher, Heidi Thatcher, Cindy Campbell, Craig (Kim) Thatcher, and Kimberly Grace Thatcher; her nieces Russlyn “Rusty” Dodson, Eunice Rosner, and Lois Rosner Hayes, grandchildren Eden, Mariah, Erica, Matthew, Isaiah, Robert, Kyle and Cassidy, and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Floyd Dodson and James Rosner, sisters-in-law Thelma Dodson and Ruth Rosner, nieces Trisha Dodson-Stivers and Naomi “Nonie” McQueen, husband Robert Thatcher, son Todd Thatcher, son-in-law John Campbell, and grandsons Brenton Campbell and Josiah Campbell.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. (followed by a reception) on November 28, 2026 at Falmouth Church of the Nazarene, 292 Brick Kiln Rd., Falmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Gosnold at Emerson House (P.O. Box 810, W. Falmouth, MA 02574), Falmouth Church of the Nazarene, or Spohr Gardens (45 Fells Rd., Falmouth, MA 02540).
