Frederick Malfy Jr., age 89, of Medford formerly of Dorchester died September 27th, following a short illness at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen M. (Lurvey). Born and raised in East Boston he was the son of the late Frederick and Mabel (Fleming) Malfy.
Mr. Malfy was a United States Army Veteran of WWII serving from 1941 to 1945. Following his time served with Army he worked for the MBTA and retired as an inspector after more than 25 years of employment. He was a member of the Carmans Union Locals 589 & 600.
Mr. Malfy was an active parishioner for many years of St. James Church in Medford.
Mr. Malfy is survived by his children Frederick and his wife Kathleen of Walpole, Lawrence and his wife Patricia of Weymouth, Mary Gillis and her husband Thomas of Medford, Ellen Laroche and her husband John of Medford, and James Malfy of Kansas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lisa and Michael Malfy, Cristina Costigliola, Michelle Dillon, Regina Gillis, Natalie and Jake Laroche and James Malfy. He is further survived by two sisters, Helen Marshall of Melrose and Rita Tanner of East Boston.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Saturday, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
