“Jamaica Plain Jane Collins,” an original, unique Bostonian with a great sense of humor, passed away as a result of a stroke on September 26, 2026. Jane was a 1968 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After graduation, she became a longtime, respected counselor at the Division of Employment Security and helped all people, especially military veterans to receive all of the benefits they were entitled to. Jane loved to travel and she went all over the world with her travelling buddy, Joan. She especially loved Italy and Greece. She also really loved the theater, the arts, and music, and she ushered at many musical venues, including Fenway Park and the waterfront. After her retirement, she became the devoted senior usher at the Opera House in Boston. Jane leaves her longtime loving partner, Richard Yarmaloff, and many friends, including college classmate Ginny Finn, Jay and Carol Vrshbo, and many other people who appreciated her wry sense of humor, and her incredible kindness. She contributed to many charities on a yearly basis. She lived her final years independently in Watertown, until the effects of her stroke took her away from her wonderful life of 80 years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the ACLU, the Berklee College of Music D. J. Henry scholarship, and the Salvation Army. A graveside funeral service will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 366 Cummins Highway, Roslindale on Monday October 26 at 1 pm. For those attending please meet at the cemetery gate and we will travel into the cemetery together in procession.
