McCARTHY, JAMES JOSEPH, “Jamie”- Age 48, lifelong resident of Roslindale, passed away on September 27 after a valiant battle with colon cancer. Cherished husband of 21 years to Catherine (Basile). Devoted son of Dorothy (Claus) & the late Eugene McCarthy. Dearest brother of Kathleen Mastaby & her husband George of Westwood, Eugene & his wife Annette of Norfolk, Stephen & his wife Kathleen of West Roxbury, and Maureen McCabe & her husband Patrick of Walpole. Son in law of Margaret Basile & her late husband Charles. Loving brother in law to Margaret & her husband Sean Byrne and Jacqueline Basile & Robert Arsenault. Adored uncle of Alana, Daniel, Elizabeth, Stephen, Matthew, Patrick, Jenna, Meghan, Deirdre & Robert Charles. Also survived by many aunts and uncles, especially his godmother Helen Claus. He will be especially missed by his devoted dog Rudie who gave him such comfort during his illness. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury on Friday Sept. 29 at 8:45 am followed by a funeral mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. The family gratefully acknowledges the support of his doctors at Faulkner and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals and especially the nurses and staff at the Faulkner ICU who provided comfort and support during his final days.
