Barbara Jean Ashby, 83, of Ventura, California, passed away of natural causes on October 9, 2026, at her home.
Barbara was born in Tyler, Texas, to Connor and Dorothy Ashby on May 29, 1943. She attended Ventura High School, graduating with the class of 1961. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch University, where she enjoyed photography, bird watching, and the liberal arts. She possessed natural artistic abilities and a deep appreciation for different cultures.
Professionally, Barbara started at ONTV, a newer television station, before moving up to the ABC Network. She loved the work until the long commute became untenable. Transitioning to a new path, she became a real estate agent in Ventura. She eventually earned her broker's license and launched her own business, The Real Estate Company, with her partner, Linda Ward. Barbara and Linda shared a successful business and partnership for over 30 years until their retirement.
An avid traveler, Barbara spent six weeks visiting 16 European countries in her 20s. She later explored China, New Zealand, Australia, Tibet, and numerous other destinations, often accompanied by her lifelong friend, Cinda Sandin.
Barbara is survived by her son, James Joseph Motley.

Family and friends are invited to to graveside funeral Services to be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura, Monday October 19th at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow afterwards at Wood Ranch in Ventura, please come and celebrate with us. All are welcome.
