Rosalie Marie Scher, 88, of Chester, NH, died Thursday, October 8, 2026 at her home. Marie spent a lifetime loving and serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her daughter. She also nurtured countless children and plants. Born in Phillips, Maine on July 9, 1938 to Cora Harden Miller. Loving wife of Donald Scher (deceased) and devoted mother to Alison Scher of Chester, NH.
Marie loved being a teacher for 42 years in the Pentucket Regional School District where she taught High School science, Fifth and Sixth grade classrooms and Computer Science to grades K-6 for the town of Merrimac, MA. She loved traveling and visited 64 countries either alone, with tour groups and friends or mostly globetrotting with Alison. After retirement, she completed certification as a New Hampshire Master Gardener and volunteered in the children’s garden at Strawberry Banke where she enjoyed the oversight of John Forti. Marie was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, MA, Mill Road Baptist of Kingston, NH and most recently, Danville Baptist Church of Danville, NH. Within the three churches she continued to serve children and women through teaching Sunday School, VBS, Pioneer Girls, AWANA, Women’s Bible Study and of course by tending the church garden. She also served the Seacoast Chapter of Stonecroft Christian Women’s Ministry and loved to open her home to many missionaries from around the world. Marie and Alison lived in West Newbury MA for 40 years where they enjoyed being members of the West Newbury Garden Club for over 25 years.
She leaves behind her sister in law, Norma Panall; her nephew, Mark Panall; her beloved cousin, Gene Damon and Betty of Richmond, VA; and niece, Rosanna Kingsley and David of New York.
Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24th at 11:00am in the Danville Baptist Church, 226 Main St, Danville, NH. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the West Newbury Garden Club, PO Box 11, West Newbury MA 01985. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
