
Miguel Angel Sostre, 92, of Worcester died Tuesday, October 6th at home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Gloria M. (Rivera) Sostre; his son, Miguel A. Sostre, Jr.; his daughter Gloria Marissa Sostre-Hernandez and her husband, Esteban Hernandez all of Worcester; two grandchildren, Gabriel A. Estevez and Samaris J. Escobar and her husband J. Marrio Escobar; four great grandchildren, Amadys Escobar, Sharleen Estevez, Alianna Escobar and J. Aiden Escobar. He was predeceased by his son, Jose Sostre.
Miguel was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and later moved to NY, FL ending in Worcester, where he made his home and raised his family. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Church in Worcester, and his faith remained an important part of his life.
Miguel was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent many years as a truck driver for several companies throughout the Worcester area, including the Salvation Army. He also worked as a bus driver for the Worcester Public Schools.
Miguel had a wonderful appreciation for life's simple pleasures. In his younger years, he loved dancing with his wife, creating cherished memories together on the dance floor. He enjoyed listening to music, watching horse races, and small gatherings with family for cookouts filled with good food, laughter, and conversation. Miguel also loved to drive and was well known for having a bit of a heavy foot behind the wheel, something that will surely bring a smile to the faces of those who knew him.
A man of strong and unwavering faith, Miguel faithfully watched religious services on television, rarely missing an opportunity to worship. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his family. Miguel will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his love of music, his devotion to his faith, his jokes and the many special memories he leaves behind.
His funeral is Thursday, October 15th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue followed by burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 14th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
