LACONIA --- Mark Olson, 58, of North Main Street in Laconia, New Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and the people who meant the most to him.
Mark was born on Christmas Day in 1967 in Aurora, Illinois, to Donald and Jenat (Barrow)Olson. Perhaps it was fitting that someone with such a warm and giving heart would enter the world on Christmas—a day that would become one of his greatest joys throughout his life. Mark was a caring and gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humor. He was a jokester who loved making people laugh and could bring a smile to those around him even when life was difficult. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to care for others were qualities that made him deeply loved by his family, friends, and community.
For eight years, Mark proudly served with the fire department (Winnisquam/Belmont) giving his time and energy to help others. His caring spirit and willingness to serve were a meaningful part of who he was, and he found meaning in being there for people when they needed him most. He also worked at Papa Ginos for 10 years as a grill cook.
Above all, Mark cherished the people he loved. His partner, Jessica, held a very special place in his heart. Their love was an important part of Mark's life, and the memories they created together will forever remain precious. He also treasured his daughter, Shelbie, whose place in his heart could never be measured. Mark found some of his greatest happiness in the simple things—camping, spending time with the people he loved, laughing, and especially Christmas. He loved the feeling of togetherness that came with the holiday season: the traditions; setting up the Christmas Village, the memories, the warmth, and the opportunity to be surrounded by those closest to him. Christmas was more than a date on the calendar for Mark; it represented love, family, hope, and the joy of being together, fitting for someone born on Christmas day. Mark's faith in Jesus was becoming an important part of his life. It gave him comfort, hope, and strength, and those who knew him will hold close the belief that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
Mark is survived by his beloved partner, Jessica; his daughter, Shelbie; his stepbrother, Skip and his wife Alicia; his stepfather, Ron; and many other family members in Illinois. He leaves behind memories that will be treasured by his family friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Though Mark is no longer here to share his laughter, tell a joke, sit around a campfire, or celebrate another Christmas with the people he loved, the love he gave will not disappear. It lives on in Jess, in his family and friends, and in every person whose life he touched. Mark's life was a gift, and his memory will be cherished always. Until we meet again, Mark. May you rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus, surrounded by the eternal love and light you believed in.
There will be no calling hours.
