Obituary

Alfred A. "Babe" Scafidi Jr. , of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was 65 years old.

Son of the late Alfred A. Scafidi Sr. and Joyce (Dennis) Scafidi, Babe was born on January 25, 1961 and grew up in Waltham MA. He was a graduate of Waltham High School Class of 1979 and it was here he met and started dating his wife Cathy during their junior year.

Babe worked many years at Embassy Trophy Company in Waltham and was currently employed at FM Approvals in Norwood, MA as a Sr Business Process Specialist.

He was a lifelong sports fan, playing both baseball and basketball and coached baseball in the Nipper Maher and Connie Mack leagues (at the field named after his grandfather James A. "Jakey" Dennis).

He was a diehard Celtics fan, attending many games as a young boy and had the honor of sitting on the lap of the legendary Red Auerbach as a 4-year-old.
He also loved the Red Sox and much to the dismay of most of his family, was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan as well. (He was able to convince his son Tim to go to the dark-side).

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Catherine A. (Corazzini) Scafidi of Bellingham, MA, his sons, Timothy M. Scafidi (Jaleise)of Franklin, MA and Jeffrey R. Scafidi (Katie ) of Blackstone, MA and was "Bampy" to his beloved grandchildren, Zoey M. and Brinley T. Scafidi of Franklin, MA.

He also leaves his sister, Jacqueline M. Scafidi of Litchfield NH, his brothers, Stephen J. Scafidi (Joan) of Hudson, NH, and Lawrence M. Scafidi (Jennie) of Waltham MA, his uncles Michael L Dennis of Falmouth MA and Bernard Scafidi (Patricia) of Westminster, MA, many nieces and nephews and many (and we do mean many) cousins.

Above all, he cherished time with his family, and he never missed his granddaughters' softball games and gymnastics events. He will be missed.

A wake will be held on Thursday October 8, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (ginleyfuneralhomes.com). 131 Main Street Franklin, MA.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
