Yolanda (Federico) D'Amato, long term resident of Somerville, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 1st. She was 88. Born and raised in Pettorano, Sul Gizio, Italy, she was the cherished daughter of the late Carmine and Maria (Checca) Federico.
Yolanda was an extraordinary seamstress. She was talented and it showed in the masterpieces she created. Yolanda was also an amazing cook and baker, and she made all Italian delicacies from scratch, her homemade pasta, Greek cookies, pizzelle’s, mile high sponge cake and homemade jarred tomato sauce just to name a few.
Yolanda had a natural green thumb. She enjoyed working in her garden, and every plant she touched thrived, especially the ones that needed tender loving care. Yolanda’s biggest passion was being a wife, mother and Nonna. She will be greatly missed by all.
Yolanda was the beloved wife of the late Concezio G. D’Amato. She was the devoted mother of Angelo D'Amato, and Maria Moreschi and her husband Richard. Yolanda was the loving Nonna of Nicholas and Andrew, and the dear sister of the late Francesco Federico and his surviving wife Dora, and the late Domenico Federico and his surviving wife Marisa. She was the proud owner of her dog Lili, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the United States and in Italy.
