STEEP FALLS- Lawrence K. Wood, age 82, passed away after a long illness on September 29, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born to the late Lester and Allice (Howard) Wood on December 2, 1943, of Baldwin
where he grew up and later joined his father in becoming a Mason.
Larry married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Miner. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
Together they had two sons Lawrence Jr. and Randy. They lovingly welcomed their two
daughters-in-law Kelly-Jo and Lori, four grandsons and their wives, Nicholas & Ali, Nathan &
Lyndsay, Benjamin & Chelsea, Daniel & Madison, and great grandchildren Waylon, Nathan Jr.,
Bailee, Madison, Rye, Kolton, Remi, Klaire, Lucus and Walker. Larry was a kind and loving man
throughout his life and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Larry served four years as a fireman in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Larry worked at his father’s pallet mill - F.E. Wood & Sons in
Baldwin, drove a tractor-trailer truck for Coles Express and retiring from Shaw’s Supermarket
where he received the Million Mile Accident Free Award.
Larry and Marilyn enjoyed many trips together with family and friends in their younger years.
Snowmobiling, motorcycling, four wheeling and to Florida with their sons. He especially enjoyed
his snowmobiling trip to Yellowstone National Park with his brother-in-law Freddy.
Dad (Papa) enjoyed hunting with his sons, grandsons and great grandson Nathan Jr. Teaching
them at a young age the family tradition. He enjoyed their Moose hunting (riding) trips with his
sons and grandsons.
Larry enjoyed his home he built for them in Steep Falls in 1967. He was very meticulous about
his grounds and his vehicles. He really enjoyed his dog Whitey and was an avid fan of the local
birds and would take care of the squirrels that robbed the food.
Special thanks to the LVAD Team at MMC for their care and concerns during his last 4 ½ years.
They trained Lori and Marilyn to continue his care in the comfort of his home. Their home was
where he always wanted to be.
He was preceded by his parents, sister Sandra, and a great granddaughter Esme. He is
survived by his wife, sons, grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren and his brother Lester Jr. He will
be dearly missed by all that knew him.
