DEERFIELD ---- Matthew “Matt” Scott Schmitt, 54, of Deerfield, New Hampshire, passed away on September 25, 2026, in Concord, New Hampshire.
Matt was born in Derry, New Hampshire, on April 27, 1972, to Robert and Velma Schmitt. He spent his childhood between Woburn, Massachusetts, and Raymond, New Hampshire, graduating from Raymond High School in 1990. As an adult, Matt made Manchester, New Hampshire, his home before eventually putting down roots in Deerfield, where he worked hard to provide a home for his family and create a place filled with the things he loved.
Matt’s career included time at Home Depot, Teradyne Connection Systems, Insight Technology/L3 Harris, and Getinge. He brought the same determination and work ethic to his career that he brought to everything else in life.
If you knew Matt, you probably knew about his passion for bodybuilding and fitness. It was more than a hobby—it was a lifelong commitment. From 1996 through 2025, Matt participated in numerous bodybuilding competitions, continually challenging himself to see what he could accomplish. He also enjoyed helping others pursue their own fitness goals as a kickboxing trainer. Matt had a way of encouraging people to push themselves, even if his definition of a “light workout” occasionally differed from everyone else’s.
Outside the gym, Matt had plenty of other interests to keep him busy. He was an avid motorsports fan, with a particular love for Formula 1 racing. He enjoyed building furniture and could turn his creativity toward recreating weapons from comics and video games. Whether he was working with weights, woodworking tools, or a project that most people would simply buy at a store, Matt was happiest when he was making, building, improving, or figuring something out.
Matt will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen Schmitt (Mazzaglia); his sons, Derek Schmitt of Manchester, NH, and Christopher Schmitt and Marcus Schmitt, both of Deerfield, NH.
He was predeceased by his mother, Velma Schmitt (Brotherton), and his brother, Dennis Schmitt.
Matt lived with determination, worked hard for the people he loved, and never seemed to run out of something to build, train for, watch, or take apart and put back together. He leaves behind a family who loved him, a lifetime of memories, and more than a few projects that may now require someone else to figure out exactly what he had in mind.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 17, 2026, at the family home, 78 High Meadow Drive, Deerfield, NH. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, tell stories, and celebrate Matt’s life in the company of those who knew and loved him.
