Joseph Lawrence Treacy, a lifelong resident of Dedham, MA, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Hospital on September 26, 2026, after a long illness. He had just celebrated his 77th birthday.
Joe grew up in Dedham and was a member of the first graduating class of Xaverian Brothers High School. He earned an engineering degree from Northeastern University and enjoyed a long career as a civil engineer. An expert chess player, he competed in tournaments across the country and continued playing until his health declined.
Joe is survived by two brothers, Michael F. Treacy of Norwood, MA and John M. Treacy of Olney, MD, his sister-in-law, Joan Treacy, and two nieces, Erin M. Treacy, M.D., and Megan Treacy Powell. He took great pleasure in spoiling his two grandnieces, Hannah and Riley Powell, and his grandnephew, Theo Powell. His sister, Mary F. Treacy, and his brother, Vincent E. Treacy, preceded him in death.
A visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St, Dedham on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 8:30-9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 10am (accessible parking in the rear of the church). Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
