Meredith, NH—John B. Picard passed away peacefully on September 21,2026, at Granite State Hospice House in Concord, New Hampshire. He was 94 years old.
John was born in Boston, Massachusetts June 29, 1932, to the late Thomas and Bertha (Brightman) Picard. He was raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Dorchester High. John enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War as a member of the UDT as a Lieutenant Junior Grade.
After returning from the service John got his electrical engineering degree at Northeastern University. Later he went on to get his master’s and doctorate degrees. He worked for Rockwell Automation for many years, traveling to fix boilers and nuclear power plants around the world. He was on the Black Liquor Recovery Boiler Advisory Committee (BLRBAC).
John was a talented musician and studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music. He played several instruments including guitar, flute, and saxophone and enjoyed musical get-togethers with family and friends.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed being with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking.
John was a member of the American Legion Post 33 in Meredith, NH, and was a service officer for 7 years.
John Picard was the beloved husband of June Kelley Picard. Beloved brother of Lynwood (Smitty) Picard and his wife Marilyn of Florida. Other beloved family members are his Niece Cheryl (Rowbotham) Ferren and her husband Eric of Northfield, NH, Nephew Scott Rowbotham and his wife Wendy of Plymouth, NH, stepdaughter Linda Consaul of Tewksbury, MA, Step granddaughter Veronica Consaul of Tewksbury, MA, Brother-in-law Edmund Patterson of Middleton, NH, Brother-in-law Brian Patterson of Newfield, Maine, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Eleanor Jenness, Elsie Mason, June Picard and his brother Thomas Picard, Jr. and his Niece Lisa (Rowbotham) Gordon. He was also preceded in death by his wife Claire P. (Rebello) Picard and by his daughter, Susanne Theresa (Picard) Salo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 10:00am, at St. Andre Bessette Parish – Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 10:00am, at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
