Richard M. Scavongelli, 91, of Medford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Brightview Senior Living. Richard was the beloved husband of the late Rosemary (Solimine) Scavongelli. Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of the late Antonio and Carmela (Pecci) Scavongelli, and brother of the late Dom and Ermie.
Richard was very proud of growing up in the North End on Jackson Av and often shared many fond childhood memories. After moving to Medford, he and Rosemary began dating when they met in Italian class at Medford High School and married in March of 1954. She was the girl of his dreams.
Richard was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1953-1961. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for more than 50 years at Karas & Karas Glass Co., where he served as Vice President of Sales. He was recognized for his leadership, honesty, and integrity in growing the Company’s business and earned the respect and admiration of the entire glass industry.
Richard was the devoted father of Richard Scavongelli, Jr. and his wife Pamela of VA, Peter Scavongelli and his wife Michele of Andover, and Anthony Scavongelli and his wife Susan of Duxbury, MA, and adored by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 2, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, MA, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Please go directly to the church. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
