Hickey, Bridget Mary (Lohan) at 89 years of age, long-time resident of West Roxbury passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer. Mary grew up on a farm in Galway, Ireland. Following the sudden death of her father, Mary, the oldest of six children emigrated to the United States in 1957 and lost contact with her broader family. Mary worked as a live in housekeeper at St John's rectory in Cambridge for several years. She met her future husband and love of her life at a dance hall in Roxbury and built a life rooted in love, hard work and perseverance in raising her five children. She worked tirelessly to provide for and care for the people that she loved; her family was always her priority. Mom devoted herself to them with quiet strength, commitment and faced life’s trials and tribulations with resounding grace, dignity and strength.
Left to cherish her memory are Rose Hickey of Winthrop, Bernadette Aidonidis and her husband Dan of Hanover, Brenda Welch and her husband Drew of Millis, Sheila Derby and her husband Paul of Dedham and John Martin and his wife Wendy of Westwood. Mary is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren all of whom were fortunate to have her helping hands along their journey: Charlie (Kelly), Steve (Kaileen) and John Aidonidis; Shannon and Bridget Welch; Delia, Cara and Patrick Derby and Caitlyn, Colman and Sean Hickey and three great grandchildren: Rowan, Belle and Nova Aidonidis. Mary is also survived by her sister Bernadette Currid of Hannibal, Missouri. Predeceased by her parents, Martin and Anne (Hession) Lohan and her husband of 65 years, Colman in 2025.
Mom lived her life quietly giving so much and seeking so little in return. Her unconditional love shaped the lives of those around her in ways that can never adequately be expressed. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2006 at 10:00AM at St. John Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington Street, West Roxbury. In keeping with mom’s wishes, all other services are private.
