Helena Anne (Evans) Wasnewsky, 96, of Franklin formerly of Medway died peacefully September 16 at Benchmark Senior Living in Franklin. She was the wife of the late Walter P. Wasnewsky who died in 1986.
Born in Milford on May 25, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Thomas) Evans, Helena spent her entire life in Medway prior to moving to Franklin in 2023.
She was a 1948 graduate of Medway High School and a 1952 graduate of Framingham State College.
Helena was a teacher in the Millis and Medway school systems for many years before retiring at age 77.
In her younger years, Helena was a member of the Catholic Daughters and also very active at St. Joseph Church in Medway. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. Her potato salad was the best. She loved playing cards and Mexican train dominoes, but she especially loved her trips to the casino. She and her husband loved to entertain, surrounding themselves with family and friends.
Helena is survived by her children, Jane Peterson and her husband David of Hudson, Walter Wasnewsky and his wife Ginger of Medway, Thomas Wasnewsky and his wife Nancy Lee of Medway, James Wasnewsky of Medway, Mary Galosky and her husband David of Naples, Florida and Leah Wasnewsky and her husband Philip Forgione of Medway.
She is also survived by her sister Kathleen (Robert) Longo of Medway and sister-in-law Ann Evans of Franklin.
Helena was predeceased by her brother George Evans and her grandson Joshua Wasnewsky.
Helena is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, David Peterson, Lindsey Anderson, Ryan Wasnewsky, Jill Pepin, Sarah Kolodenker, Sam Wasnewsky, Christopher Wasnewsky, Andrew Wasnewsky, Rachel MacDonald, Micaela and Matt Galosky; 3 step-grandchildren, Christine Parent, Elizabeth Whiting and Madeleine Verdolino; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Her Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, at St. Joseph Church, Medway.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Medway.
Calling hours will be on Monday, September 21, from 4-7 p.m. in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway.
