Obituary

FRYEBURG- Janet Marie Collomy passed away on September 11th at 12:34 a.m.

She was born in 1945, the firstborn child of Helen, a Dust Bowl survivor, and Sidney Collomy, a World War II veteran.

Together, the family moved from Sioux City, Iowa, and settled in Parsonsfield, Maine. Their family would grow to include nine siblings, all raised in the humblest of beginnings. No electricity, working a farm, no running water. It was an outhouse kinda life, with a Sears and Roebuck catalog that wasn’t meant for reading.

Janet was shy and modest; however, her work ethic and determination would send her on adventures that spanned the globe.

Her career in nursing saw her study and work everywhere from San Francisco to Boston. Though she couldn’t figure out how to use a computer or electronics to save her life, don’t let that fool you. She was highly intelligent and a quiet leader. An analog woman in a digital world, if you will. No matter where she worked, Janet excelled and earned the respect of her peers. But taking care of people professionally wasn’t enough for her.

At the age of 40, she traveled to Brazil to adopt a baby boy as a single mother. Together, she and her “Brazilian nut” created their own world of magic and wonder. Janet and her son would soon add to their family as she became a sort of neighborhood mom. The Collomy house was always full of life, welcoming local kids alongside dorm students from China, Korea, Africa, and Europe.

Janet spent her free time playing card games with family, reading pulp mystery novels, and watching god-awful Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel.

She spent most of her time serving others, caring for people, loving her family, and giving back to the world.

She now rests peacefully where it all began, buried beside her mother and father.

"Janet is survived and predeceased by many but forgotten by none."

Visitation will be held on Saturday Oct. 3rd from 1 - 2 PM, followed by a 2 PM service at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish.
