Andromache "Mickie" (Petropoulos) Sheehey
Andromache "Mickie" Sheehey passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at the age of 92, after a rich and fulfilling life, blessed with true meaning and lasting connection. She is predeceased by her husband James (Jim) Sheehey, who sadly passed in 2001.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 7, 1933, to Basil and Agnes Petropoulos, who had each immigrated to the United States from the Peloponnese region of Greece, Mickie was raised in a large and loving family as the youngest daughter alongside her 5 older siblings who have since departed (Connie, Frances, Larry, John and Nancy), and each of whom had a great impact on helping to shape her life. She graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1951 and went on to complete a two-year medical assistant program at the Chandler School for Women. This education led to rewarding careers at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, where later in her career she managed endpoints for various landmark studies on behalf of Harvard Medical School. As for hobbies, she was passionate about the piano at a very young age and was the organ player in her church choir for many years at the St. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cambridge, where she was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope, a group that raised money for the church, provided scholarships, and worked tirelessly during the annual Greek festivals over many decades. The relationships she made there were lifelong.
Jim and Mickie were married in that church on October 7th, 1967. Together they made their first home in Cambridge, later moving to Belmont, where they raised their two children, Jamie and Lynn. Jim was adopted quickly into the large and loud extended Greek family, and immersed himself in all the traditions that he grew to love as much as he did his wife.
Mickie always took great joy in gatherings with those she loved. Whether it was weekend beach trips to Nahant, singing and playing piano, or cooking and hosting large events, family remained at the forefront of it all and her lessons about protecting and nurturing these values continue to resonate through to all of those she touched, especially her many nieces and nephews (who she loved dearly) and will carry on the legacy learned from 'Auntie Mickie' and her treasured older siblings.
She is survived by her son, Jamie, daughter-in-law Andrea, her daughter Lynn and son-in-law Ted, along with her grandchildren she was absolutely devoted to -- Christian, Kaia, Charlotte and Dylan -- who she not only helped raise, but who have now committed to memory her many sayings, stories, and words of wisdom that they will undoubtedly live the rest of their lives by.
In that, her memory truly will be eternal.
At a later time, a celebration will be held to honor her amazing life.
