Obituary


Mrs. Rosita M. Salazar, age 93, of Andover, died peacefully, Friday morning, September 22, 2006, at Sutton Hill Nursing Home in North Andover. She was the beloved wife of 68 years of the late Luis A. Salazar.
She was born in Barcelona, Spain, the daughter of the late Col. Cirilo and Rosa Maria Salaverria. As a young girl she traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Canal Zone in Panama, where she and her family lived for many years, since her father was an officer with the Spanish American Army. She moved to Andover in 1957 and was an active member of many organizations including, past president of the New Comers Club, past president of the XI Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, member of the Shawsheen Women’s Club, Suburban Homemakers Club of Andover, where she loved to give demonstrations of her hat designs, the Andover Garden Club and a long time communicant of St. Augustine Church in Andover. She was also a talented artist and has several beautiful paintings displayed at her home.
She was the loving mother of Rosita L. and her husband J. Paul Proulx, devoted grandmother of Monique Proulx of Boxford, Luis A. Salazar, II and Andrea P. Salazar both of Michigan, great-grandmother of Brianna M. and Allysha E. Proulx-Walter both of Boxford and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was also sister of the late Joseph and Luis Salaverria.
Calling hours were Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM, September 26, 2006, in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover. Her funeral mass was celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at 10:30 AM. Many relatives and friends attended. Burial was in West Parish Garden Cemetery, Andover.
