KELLY, John F. Jr. “Mike” of West Roxbury, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born to the late John and Ella (Cox) Kelly, Mike was the beloved husband of the late Margaret “Peggy” (Bane) Kelly. He was the loving father of Michael Kelly and his wife, Jessica, of Mansfield, and Richard Kelly and his wife, Michelle, of Woodstock, Georgia. He was the cherished grandfather of Joseph, Matthew, Brendan, Ryan, Bryan, Tim, Patrick, and Sami. Mike was the caring brother of Nancy Larsen and her husband, George, of Manomet, Massachusetts; Ethel Schembri and her husband, Robert, of Woodhaven Michigan; and the late Eleanor Kelly. He was the beloved brother-in-law of John and Kathy Bane, Joseph and Noel Bane, and James and Dale Bane, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mike worked as an electrician for many years at Boston College and later for the City of Newton, while also running his own small electrical business. After an injury brought his electrical career to an end, Mike tended bar at BK’s Pub. With his gift of gab and outgoing personality, Mike made friends wherever he went and always enjoyed a good conversation.
For nearly 50 years, Mike and Peggy spent their summers and early fall in York Beach, Maine, a place that became a second home to them. Over the years, they made lifelong friends and countless memories there. Always willing to lend a hand, Mike became known as the campground’s “fix-it guy” and could often be counted on to help a friend with whatever needed repairing.
Above all, Mike was a proud and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in his family and especially loved hearing about his grandchildren’s games, activities, and accomplishments. Even when his health prevented him from attending in person, he was always eager for updates and proud to hear what they were doing.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 11am to 12pm at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA. 02132. A funeral service will take place immediately following at 12pm at the funeral home. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will be private.
