
Edward “Ed” Henry Henning, Sr. passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026. Ed was a wonderful man who was loved and admired by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his son Charles Henning. He is survived by sons Ed Henning, Jr. (wife Lijuan), Gary Henning (wife Kelly), Scott Henning, and daughter Dottsie Bass; 10 grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters, and a large community of extended family and friends.
Ed was born in 1939, the third of 9 children. He resided in New York City until moving to Fairlawn, NJ as a teenager. He remained in New Jersey, where he built his life and raised his own family. A dedicated father and professional, Ed spent more than 5 decades with Glass Gardens Shop-Rite, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. After retirement, he moved to his home on Cape Cod, where he continued to bring joy and friendship to everyone he encountered. Ed didn't know a stranger, and he enjoyed meeting people and loved conversation. He was a sports enthusiast, and an avid New York Yankees fan. His favorite past times included walking on the beach with his beloved dogs, Sophie and Pepper, and spending time with them at the Brewster Dog Park.
Ed had a heart like no other; kind, generous, and full of love, that he shared with everyone. He was a true gentleman, ready to help anyone in need. He lived life to the fullest, and saw every challenge as an opportunity. He leaves behind an indelible glow on the hearts of everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed.
