Obituary

WEBSTER – Edmond J. Girard, 85, of 410 Beacon Park, died Sunday, Sept. 24, in Kindred Parkview of Central Mass, Leicester, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife Rejeanne L.(Duval) Girard; a son, Garry E. Girard and his wife Lois of Stonington, CT; a brother-in-law, Michael Wrabel and his wife Sue of Webster; a stepsister, Joan Raymond of Dudley; a stepson, Luc Ladurantaye of Greenville, SC: 5 nephews and two cousins, Dorothy Wawrzyniak and Donald Kasierski and his wife Jeanette. His first wife, Ann F. (Wrabel) Girard, died in 2004. A stepbrother, Walter Roszkiewicz, also predeceased him.

He was born and raised in Thompson, CT, the son of William Girard and Joanna (Kasierski) Girard Roszkiewicz .He lived in East Hartford until 1985, when he moved to Dennis; he wintered in Deerfield Beach, FL. He graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in North Grosvenordale in 1938, where he played varsity baseball and soccer. He studied at Tufts University, Boston University and University of Connecticut, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1962. He then earned a Master of Science Degree and a six-year diploma in business education.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and of the Korean Conflict, and served in the Navy for 21 years. He taught in the ROTC program at Tufts University.

Mr. Girard was first a teacher and then the head of the business department at George Penney High School in East Hartford, where he worked for 23 years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. He belonged to the Submarine Veterans of World War II, Groton Chapter, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn. and the Fleet Reserve Assn. He was a former member of the Men’s Forum in Dennis.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held Friday, Sept. 29, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 28, and from 9:15 to 10:15 AM Friday in the funeral home.
