Maria Haviara Loutraris, 87, of Medford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 4th 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 1, 1939, in Lagkada, Chios, Greece. Maria was the beloved daughter of Michalis and Anna Haviara. In 1960, Maria married the love of her life, John Loutraris, and moved to Athens Greece before eventually making their home in Medford, Massachusetts. They shared 47 happy years of marriage before John's passing in 2007. Together they enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors planting roses and begonias. They cherished creating memories with their granddaughters.
Maria was a talented seamstress with a specialty in wedding gowns. She was employed by Priscilla of Boston Bridal where she spent most of her career. Her exceptional skill, artistry and dedication to her craft touched the lives of many.
As a devoted member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Maria faithfully attended Sunday services and generously volunteered her time preparing food for the church festival and applying her sewing skills to donate handmade aprons and scarves. She supported GOYA by sewing a quilt made of squares painted by the children. She also handmade traditional Greek clothing for her granddaughters, sharing her heritage, talents, and love with the next generation. Even as her illness progressed, a day did not go by without asking about the whereabouts of her two sons and granddaughters.
Maria is survived by her sons Paul Loutraris and his wife Joanne of Medford, and her son Michael Loutraris and his partner Katherine of Newton, her granddaughters Maria Daigneau and her husband Jeremy of Tyngsboro and Keriann Loutraris and her partner Michael Center of Stoneham, her sister Zenio of Chios, Greece, her sister-in-law, Eugenia Patras of Medford, niece Kathy Carvalho and husband John of Medford, as well as several beloved niece and nephews in Greece. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Loutraris, sister Angeliki Geogoulis, and brother-in-law, George Patras.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Maria’s family at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 22 Central St., Somerville, on Tuesday, September 15th from 9 AM to 11 AM, followed by a service at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Maria will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family and faith, generous spirit, and the love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
