Maggie Lee Hunter Cleghorn, 93, formally of Leesburg, Georgia, died Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Memorial services will be held 1 PM, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Paulk Funeral Home chapel in Ocilla, Georgia, with John Fennell officiating. The family will greet friends following the services.
Mrs. Cleghorn was born July 4, 1933, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late James Ernest & Eloise Whitley Hunter. She graduated from Mystic High School and had a lifelong career in sales working for Rich’s Shoe Department in Decatur, Gayfer’s Department Store in Montgomery, Alabama and later transferring to Albany, Georgia. Mrs. Cleghorn enjoyed creating floral arrangements. She loved spending time with her family and attending church. Mrs. Cleghorn was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.
She is survived by her sons: John Roger Cleghorn, Jr. & Kendra of Wetumpka, Alabama and Benny Cleghorn of Fitzgerald; grandsons: John Roger Cleghorn, III, Ben Cleghorn and Hunter Cleghorn & Charity; Ben and Hunter’s mother, Linda Walker; a great grandson, Crue Cleghorn; sisters: Sandra Bryson & Benny of Warner Robins, Linda Gray & Kenny of Hortense, and Karen Fennell & John of Jasper; sisters-in-law: Rachel Hunter and Darnell Hunter both of Ocilla; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Roger Cleghorn, Sr. and her brothers: J.D. Hunter, Gene Hunter, Curtis Hunter and Gary Hunter.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Dorminy Medical Center, Hospice Care Options, Etairos Healthcare of Tifton, Palmetto Hospice and Magnolia Personal Care Home for the special care given to Mrs. Cleghorn.
