BIDDEFORD- Christopher “Chris” Carter passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026, at his home in Biddeford, Maine, with his family by his side.
Chris was born on September 29, 1956, in Calais, Maine, the son of Gerald (“Jud”) Carter and Helen (“Nancy”) Carter. After graduating from Calais High School, Chris spent many years in Texas before returning to Maine, where he settled in Biddeford.
Chris married his loving wife, Elizabeth (“Liz”) Carter, and they remained together until her passing in November 2020. Chris was a proud Free Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Widow Sons, where he found a special sense of brotherhood and camaraderie. Before Liz’s passing, Chris and Liz spent many happy hours with his “brothers” and family, enjoying motorcycle rides, vacations, and simple gatherings at the club. Those who knew them will always remember the loving way Liz called her husband “Carter”—in a way only she could.
Chris had a true love for riding his Harley-Davidson and cherished the freedom of the open road with his brothers. He treasured the friendships he made throughout his life, loved catching up with old friends, making new ones, and, of course, enjoying a cold beverage. Time with family meant so much to him, and most recently his great-niece, Halle, held a very special place in his heart. Halle said it best the last time she saw him, “Bye Uncle Chris, I hope you have a good sleep.”
Chris will be remembered for his kindness, friendship, sense of humor, and the many memories he created with the people around him. He had a gift for making even ordinary moments feel special, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His family finds comfort in knowing that Chris is reunited with his beloved Liz. After all, no one could have taken better care of him than she did. He is also reunited with his parents and his brother, Dale Carter, who predeceased him.
Chis is survived by his brother Ray Carter; sister Cathy Rayner; sister in laws Susan Carter, and Michelle Wiedenfeld; brother in law Steven Rayner; stepdaughter Megan Sayer and her husband Ryan Sayer; nephews Jared Bridges, David Carter, and Dylan Carter; nieces Kali Rayner, Sarah Regal, and Taylorae Carter; granddaughter Ava Sayer; and several great nieces and nephews.
Chris’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow Masons, riding brothers, and all those whose lives he touched.
Ride on, Chris. Until we meet again.
Visitation will be held on Saturday Sept. 5th from 10 - 11 AM, followed by an 11 AM Masonic Funeral at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton.
A reception will immediately follow at the Waterboro Eagles from 12-2 PM
