Rita V. (McGlynn) Bonofilio, 79, of Worcester, died Friday, August 28th, at Jewish Healthcare Center. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 39 years, James D. Bonofilio, who died in 2016.
She is survived by her two daughters, Melissa M. Bonofilio and her husband, Nathaniel Clark, of Worcester, and Jean-Marie M. Bonofilio of Boston; two sisters, Cheryl A. McGlynn and Joita L. McGlynn, both of Alexandria, VA; and three grandchildren, Elijah, Mally, and Astrid. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph McGlynn, and two sisters, Melissa and Theresa McGlynn.
Rita was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Lorenza (Cabrera) McGlynn. A lifelong educator, Rita dedicated more than 30 years to the Worcester Public Schools before retiring in 2005. During her career, she served as a teacher, principal, and, lastly, an administrator. Her commitment to education and the students and families she served was an important part of her life.
Rita found her greatest happiness in the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy and pride. She enjoyed quiet pastimes. An avid reader, she could often be found absorbed in a good book, working on a crossword puzzle, or playing games on her Kindle. She had a special love for calico cats, each lovingly given a name beginning with the letter “P.” Rita enjoyed the simple pleasures.
Rita will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center for the love and care they provided Rita. She truly felt the love and support from the dedicated staff.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd, from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 37 Massasoit Road. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, September 2nd, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
