Worcester – Anthony J. Chimera, 91, of Worcester, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 in the Jewish Healthcare Center after an illness.
Tony is survived by his four children, Geraldine Chimera of Marlborough, Anthony and his wife Jessica, of Holden, AnnMarie and her husband Theodore Merkel, of Worcester, Richard and his fiancee Erin of Northbridge; and his two grandchildren, Jordan and Vanessa; along with many nieces and nephews.
Tony was born in Buffalo, NY son of Italian immigrants, Samuel and Clara (Sorce) Chimera and is also predeceased by a brother, James Chimera and two sisters, Barbara Chimera and Mary Ann Chimera.
He worked the majority of his career as a machine operator in the paper manufacturing industry, but he also worked as a location scout for many movie productions and as security personnel for the Anheuser Busch Company in California.
Tony was a proud member of the Sons of Italy and enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness throughout his life. He had a love for playing cards and was an avid poker player. Tony also enjoyed watching movies, with a particular fondness for westerns and mob films, and had a deep interest in history, especially learning about World War II. He cherished the time he spent bowling with friends and taking his daily walks, finding enjoyment in both good company and the routines of everyday life.
Tony was a member of St. Ann’s Parish of Marlborough, where he was not just a parishioner, but the custodian which brought him much pride and joy. His Catholic faith was strong and an integral part of his life, providing him with comfort, strength, and guidance throughout the years. His faith, friendships, interests, and the many memories he created with those he loved will remain a lasting part of the lives of all who knew and loved him.
A private Mass of Christian Burial is being held in Saint Stephen’s Church 357 Grafton Street Worcester with burial taking place in Buffalo, NY alongside his parents. Memorial contributions in memory of Tony may be to Catholic Charities 10 Hammond St. Worcester, MA 01610.
