Sharon McLaughlin Mahoney, 62, of Lowell, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 24, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Philip Mahoney, with whom she shared more than 39 years of marriage.
Sharon was born in Lowell on April 23, 1964, and was the beloved daughter of Alice (Cloutier) McLaughlin and the late Raymond McLaughlin. She was raised and educated in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell Vocational Technical High School.
Sharon devoted her life to her family and found her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother 'Mimi'. She had an incredible love for children and always had a special place in her heart for them. Sharon was a true firecracker, strong-willed and stubborn in the most loving way. She welcomed everyone with open arms and was always willing to take the time to listen. Her caring nature, warmth, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She also had a special fondness for Snoopy and unicorns, two things that brought out her playful and fun-loving side. Sharon’s greatest legacy will be the love she gave so freely to her family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, Mimi, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose love, laughter, strength, and caring spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
In addition to her mother, Alice, and her beloved husband, Philip, Sharon is survived by her daughter, Kayla Mahoney of Lowell, and her husband Benjamin Brayer of Pennsylvania; and her cherished grandchildren, Brody Raymond Mahoney and Marnie Rose Brayer, who brought immense joy to her life.
She is also survived by her three brothers, Steven McLaughlin and his wife, Linda of Methuen, Sean McLaughlin and his wife, Melissa of Lowell, and Barry McLaughlin and his wife, Vivan of Lowell; her nieces and nephews, Arlisha, Elizabeth, Noah, and Cole McLaughlin; her sister-in-law, Heather Jutras of Lowell; her brother-in-law, Matthew Mahoney of Billerica and Tricia Mahoney of Maine; and her aunt and Godmother, Shirley Cloutier, and Uncle, William Cloutier, both of Lowell.
Sharon was predeceased by her father, Raymond McLaughlin, and her beloved daughter, Nicole.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to a cancer organization supporting brain or lung cancer research, or to the Lowell Humane Society.
