LIMERICK- Edward “Ed” Michaud, 81, of Limerick, ME, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born May 5, 1945, in Salem, MA, the son of Arthur Clovis Michaud and Marie Hedwidge (Gagne) Michaud.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served his country aboard the USS Boxer from 1966 to 1968. He spent the majority of his career at Salem Sign before starting his own business creating neon signs.
Ed was the loving husband of Deborah Michaud, sharing more than 30 years of marriage and companionship. Having met later in life, they shared a special kind of long lasting love. Family will often speak of Ed and Debbie dancing in the kitchen.
Over the years, Ed enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking and electronics, but his true passion was sailing. He began sailing at a young age and, every summer, took his family on a two-week excursion up the coast of Maine. A longtime member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club, Ed was known as a warm, social presence at the dock, always ready to joke and chat with anyone who passed by his slip. His love of boating was so deeply woven into who he was that, even through his decline, he would often ask those around him if he could take them out for a sail.
Ed is survived by his children: Mark Michaud and wife Tammi of Marblehead, Massachusetts; Michelle Karalekas and partner Bill of Hingham, Massachusetts; and Monique Buxton and husband Luke of Rowley, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Lanora Brooks and partner Mark of Dover, New Hampshire; Christy Barrowclough and husband Keith of Barrington, New Hampshire; Blaine Brooks and wife Elaine of Lisbon Falls, Maine; and Julia Kalkanis and husband Demetrios of Marion, Massachusetts.
Ed is further survived by his 12 grandchildren — Andrew, Christopher, Evelyn, Eben, Suna, Madison, Ella, Kyle, Lanessa, Kate, Philip, and Arthur — and his 3 great-grandchildren, Rose, Madilyn, and Deacon, as well as his dog and faithful companion, Aussie.
Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Norman Michaud, and his sisters, Lena Demeule and Pauline St. Pierre.
