Russell R. Norman, 76, of Chester, NH, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026, in his home in Chester, NH. He was born on March 3, 1950 in Southington, CT, a son of Harold and Jeannette (Tokarczyk) Norman, and had been a resident of Chester, NH for the past 38 years, formerly living in Connecticut. Russ grew up with his brothers, Mike and Jim, at the family home in Wallingford, CT.
He graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1968 and matriculated to the University of Connecticut, majoring in Business Administration, and graduating in 1972. He went on to a career in production management for companies, first in CT and then in New Hampshire.
Russ is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen (Galloway) Norman of Chester; brother, James Norman of RI; sister-in-law, Nancy B Norman; brother-in-law, Ray Galloway and his wife, Barbara; his Aunt Helen Cooper, step parent Elena Norman and nephews Mark and Kevin Norman and their families; dear friends: C.J. Hermann, Dianne and Ed Kunelius, Debbie Lewis and several extended family members and friends. Russ was predeceased by his parents; brother, Michael Norman; his sister-in-law Claudia Norman; and his much-loved dog and best friend, Molly.
Russ was an avid follower of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed playing softball, golf, and fishing with his brother, Mike and his wife, Nancy. Russ, along with Ellen, considered it a labor of love to develop their farm, oriented toward raising horses. They had been involved in thoroughbred horseracing since the late 1980s. In addition, he became an active participant in the Chester Democratic Town Committee, ultimately serving as its chairperson.
Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, August 27 from 5-7 PM at the Peabody Funeral Home, 18 Birch Street, DERRY. The family is requesting no flowers, but suggests in lieu that Memorial contributions may be made to his favored charity, Special Olympics, Pathways (Hospice) Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Following cremation and local calling hours, burial will take place at a later date in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT 06473.
