Lowell Artist Janet Lambert-Moore died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 4th 2026. She was 87.
The proud mother of two sons--Joseph "Joey" Moore of San Diego and Chauncey Moore of Lowell--Janet was preceded in death (1998) by her loving husband, Richard "Dick" Moore. Born in Lowell on April 25th 1939, Janet was the daughter of Lowell police officer, the late Chauncey H. Lambert and the late Virginia (Foster) Lambert. She was also the eldest of nine siblings (delineated below).
A Lowell High School graduate (1956) and LHS Distinguished Alumni (2008), Janet earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art (1960); and a Master of Education from Salem State University (1962). As an educator & historian, "Lambert-Moore" spent her entire lifetime and artistic career wholeheartedly dedicated to the arts, with specific devotion for her beloved milltown of Lowell, Massachusetts. In many ways, "JLM" martyred herself for her chosen cause! In 1948, as a young girl of nine, Janet began her first formal art lessons at Lowell's historic Whistler House Museum of Art, under the guidance of art professor, the late Leo Panas. After earning her college degrees, Janet taught high school art and art history for eight years from 1961. Decades that followed were filled with art studios, exhibits, murals & so much more! She lived an active life of outreaching love and public service--a true champion of the arts, history, theatre, sports and local politics. Because she sincerely loved people, Janet had an uncanny ability of enshrining herself in the hearts of others. Ironically, Janet was deeply touched by a Jerry Herman song whose lyrics accurately describe her own unique spirit of thoughtful lovingkindness:

Janet leaves behind five sisters: Joan Murphy (Loveland) and her daughter, Dawn; Joyce French (El Paso) and her children Sean, Charrey & Shane; Jean Knight (Nashua) and her children, Nelson & Jinny; Judy Wagner (Dracut) and her sons, Jim & John; Juli Rogers (Chelmsford) and her son, Jason. In addition, Janet was predeceased by her siblings: Rev. George Lambert, Jackie St. Cyr, and June "Pip" Agnew. Near and dear nieces & nephews also include: Susan, Rachel, George & Stephen (Lambert); Germaine St. Cyr; Dr. Joe Agnew & Ernie Agnew; Manuel "Manny" Bello; and Deborah (Elder) Oldfield.
As per Janet Lambert-Moore's wishes, no funeral services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Whistler House Museum of Art; Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell; and Lowell Association for the Blind. Family & Friends of Janet hope for a future celebration of her life, her art, and her contribution to the public at large.
