
PYLE, Margot (Copeland) of North Hill, Needham, formerly of Dedham, age 91, died peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Born March 7, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Helen (Hunter) and Lowell Townsend Copeland. Devoted wife of the late Charles McAlpin Pyle Jr. Loving mother of Elizabeth Pyle Handler (Steven) of Needham, Stuart Hunter Pyle of Marshfield, Russell Townsend Pyle (Elizabeth) of Chestnut Hill, and the late Duncan Adsit Pyle. Loving stepmother of Charles McAlpin Pyle III (Sarah) of Francestown, N.H. Sister of Ann Copeland Billings of Walpole and the late Caroline Copeland Fisher of Pittsburgh. Also survived by six grandsons, David and Matthew (Allison) Handler, and Charles, Edward (Molly), Thomas, and Duncan Pyle, and one great-grandson. Also survived by five nieces, five great nieces and 11 great nephews.
Before moving to North Hill, she lived for over 50 years in Dedham and gave freely of her time and energy to organizations in which she believed. She was especially active in education, social services, and local politics, having served as a trustee of Dedham Country Day School, Trinity-Pawling School, The Ellis School, and Dedham Savings, and a director of Family Service of Dedham, Family Service America, and Dedham Savings Community Foundation. She represented her precinct in Town Meeting for over 40 years and chaired the finance committee. Graduate of The Ellis School and Smith College, Class of 1956.
A celebration of Margot’s life will be held at The Country Club, Brookline, Saturday, October 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Dedham Savings Community Foundation, 55 Elm Street, Dedham, MA 02026, to any of the educational institutions with which she was affiliated, The Dedham Community House, or to a charity of your choice.
