Obituary

TRAVERS, Gerard T., Sr. of Medway, formally of West Roxbury, passed away on August 17, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Ruth (Connors). Loving father to Gerard T. Travers, Jr. and his wife Karen of Medway. Cherished grandfather of Gerard T. Travers III, John (Jack) Travers, Patrick Travers and his wife Julianne, and Danny Travers. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews Kathleen Boschetto (Joseph), James Feeney, Maureen Scannell (Thomas), Mary Ellen Miller (John) and Edward Kenney (Kimberly). He was preceded in death by his niece Patricia Darcey.

Jerry was born in Boston and grew up in Roxbury where he met his wife, Ruth. They bought their first house in West Roxbury and remained there for 57 years until moving in with his son & his family in 2022. Jerry was a proud Army veteran and a hard-working HVAC repair man for 32 years before retiring in 1998. Jerry was a kind, quiet man who cared lovingly for his mother Irene until her death in 1993 and his wife Ruth for the last, more difficult years of her life. He had a very close bond with his sister and brother in laws and there are endless good stories and memories from their family parties over the years. He and Ruth were extremely proud of their son, Jerry Jr. and subsequently their four grandsons. As parents they raised Jerry Jr. in a loving home where family was the priority and cousins were more like siblings. They instilled strong values of hard work, kindness, loyalty and faith.

They were thrilled to take on the role of Nana & Papa and were very involved in their grandsons’ lives. They were always willing to watch the boys, take them on outings or out for meals. They rarely missed a school event, baseball, basketball or football game from youth sports through high school but the main desire was to spend quality time with them. Their bond with each of the boys was strong and special. Jerry was a wonderful role model of how to be a good man and loving husband/father that always prioritized family. Even in the last 5 years of his life when dealing with the progressive nature of Alzheimer’s, his kind and gentle personality never changed.
