Ellen M. Thorner, 84, passed away on August 15, 2026.
She grew up in Troy, New York, and later moved to Londonderry, Vermont, where she raised her two young sons on her own strength and creativity. In her final years, she lived in Massachusetts with her son William and his wife, Kirstie, surrounded by family.
Over the course of her life, Ellen brought her creative eye to nearly everything she did, working in graphic design, retail management, interior design, and as an ad hoc portrait artist. She had a sharp sense of humor —one that could lean dryly dark — which stood in striking contrast to the deep religious faith that grounded her.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Thorner. She is survived by her two sons: James (Krista) and William (Kirstie); her grandchildren, Lyla, Cass, Nathan, and Kade; and other loving family and friends.
Ellen passed on a day that carried its own quiet significance for her family — the wedding anniversary of her son William and his wife Kirstie, and the high school graduation of her granddaughter Lyla.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home(ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church at 11:00a.m.
