SONIA, Edward D. Jr., Longtime resident of Roslindale, passed away on August 16, 2026. Beloved husband of Nancy M. (Sabourin) Sonia. Devoted father of Daniel Sonia and his wife Melissa of Hyde Park, Katie Sonia of Roslindale, Thomas Sonia and his wife Nelida of Roslindale, and Kerry Sonia of Roslindale. Loving Papa of Alvin, Anthony, Joseph, Kourtney, Evan, Amelia, and Rilan. Brother of Mary Ellen DeMarco, and the late Betty-Ann Nally and her surviving husband Jim. Nephew of Peggy Ariel, and Jane Ryan. He leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ed is also survived by his loving neighbor Sandy.
Ed proudly served in the United States Navy in Vietnam before building a nearly 40-year career at S. M. Lorusso & Sons. He was a member of the Boston Elks Lodge #10 for fifty years. When reflecting on his life, he always made a point to emphasize how much he loved his wife, how proud he was of his four children, and the great joy he had in spending time with his seven grandchildren. He was a man that made it to every school event and slipped his grandkids a “finsky” every chance he got. He built a beautiful kingdom in Vermont, his home away from home where he enjoyed the outdoors while eating a snickers bar. Ed will be remembered for his humor, fighting spirit, and deep love for his family.
Visiting hours will be held at the P.E. Murray - F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St. West Roxbury on Thursday, August 20th from 3-7pm. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ed’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation www.T2T.org.
