Obituary

Walter Cantrell (“Pete”) Parish born February 14, 1931, died August 4, 2026 at age 95. Pete was born into a Navy family and spent his early years in many places including Honolulu, Long Beach, Seattle, Savannah, and Annapolis. He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Feather and her husband Robert, of Wye, England; Elizabeth Beasley and her husband Kirk of County Limerick, Ireland; Margaret Parish of Great Barrington, Massachusetts; and step-daughter Christine Albitz and her husband Bill of Cape Coral, Florida; and one cat, Susie, of Ocean City, Maryland. Predeceased by his beloved second wife Rosemary (2016), his sister Pally (2024), his brother Chuck (1968 MIA), and his parents “Hop” (1989) and Allen (1988). Pete served four years in the Navy Construction Battalion (“Seabees”) and went on to have a long career as a civil engineer developing considerable skill in structural and geotechnical design as he contributed to major urban transit systems in Washington DC, San Francisco, Taipei, and Boston. After he retired, he continued working for many years as a consulting engineer for projects on the Delmarva Peninsula. Pete spent his last years at the Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, Massachusetts, where he was deeply grateful for the care, camaraderie, and forbearance of many of the dedicated staff.

Pete will be cremated and his ashes, together with Rosemary’s, will be returned to the ocean near which they spent many happy years.
