Obituary

Susan Elizabeth (McCullough) Borodawka

Susan Elizabeth (McCullough) Borodawka, 66, of Lowell, known to many who loved her as "Susie Bo," died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 15, 2026, following a brief illness, holding her daughter's hand.

Born in Lowell on October 6, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Robert McCullough and the late Faye (Woessner) McCullough. Susan was a lifelong resident of the city, raised in Lowell and educated in its schools, and she was a graduate of Greater Lowell Technical High School. She worked as a nurse in her younger days, followed by many years at the Market Basket on Chelmsford Street, where her familiar face was part of the daily routine for countless neighbors and regulars. Above all, she poured herself into raising her family, which was the work she was proudest of.

Susan began each day with a good hot cup of coffee, a small ritual she never gave up. She loved a long walk, and she loved her television shows, "The Golden Girls," "NCIS," "Law and Order," and any crime show she could get her hands on. She had a soft spot for chocolate chip ice cream, pudding, and yogurt, and an even softer one for her grand dogs, Snoopy and Charlie.

More than anything, Susan cherished the time she spent with those closest to her. She was a different person when she was surrounded by the people who loved her, lighter, funnier, more herself. She adored her family, and especially the little ones. Not long ago she taught her grandson Spencer how to wave, and every wave that followed meant the world to her.

Susan is survived by her three children, Michelle Borodawka of Maine, Michael R. Borodawka and his wife Mary of Westford, and Sara Faye Borodawka and her fiancé Bryan Burns of Lowell. She was the proud grandmother of Tristan, Owen, and Morgan of Maine, and Spencer of Lowell. She also leaves her sisters, Patty St. Jean of Chelmsford and Karen Hall of Lowell, and her brother, Bob McCullough and his wife Judy of Lowell, as well as her closest friend, Louisa Rocha of North Chelmsford. Susan is further survived by her large extended family, whom she loved dearly, including many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Nathan Chheng, and by her brother-in-law, Mark Hall.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial visitation on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
