Gary Martin Swieczkowski, 74, passed away on August 4, 2026, at Emory University Hospital.
Gary was born on March 10, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Leonard and Marcella Swieczkowski.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years and the love of his life, Ruth O’Neal Swieczkowski. Their life together was one built on love, devotion, and family. He is also survived by his beloved daughter, Andrea (Daniel) Swieczkowski Mullis; his grandchildren, Anna Fletcher, who was her Grandpa’s very best buddy, Emerson Mullis, Jordan Mullis, Cohen Grice, and Cash Grice; and his brother, Drew (Sue) Swieczkowski of Phoenix, Arizona. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family members, and special friends who were blessed to know and love him.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 21 years of dedicated service. His strong work ethic continued throughout his life. Following his military retirement, he worked for Fitzgerald Water, Light & Bond and later at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, where he worked in maintenance and shared his knowledge and skill by teaching welding in the evenings. He later joined ABAC’s Forest Lakes Golf Course, where he served as Assistant Superintendent.
Gary had a lifelong love of sports. Growing up in Michigan, he played hockey and had the privilege of playing within the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks minor league organizations. Later in life, the ice gave way to the golf course, and golf became one of his favorite pastimes.
But of all the things Gary accomplished and enjoyed throughout his life, nothing compared to his family. His favorite place to be was simply wherever his girls were. He was a devoted husband, a loving Daddy, and a treasured Grandpa. His girls were his greatest joy, and there was never any doubt how very much he loved them.
Gary lived a life of service—to his country, through his work, and most importantly, to the family he loved beyond measure. His strength, humor, love, and presence will be deeply missed, but the life he built and the love he gave will remain with his family forever.
Gary leaves behind a legacy far greater than anything that can be captured in words: he loved his family well, and he was deeply loved in return.
