Obituary

Paul A. Champagne 86, a lifelong resident of Lowell, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at RegalCare at Lowell, following a recent period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (Deschenes) Champagne, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, having exchanged vows on July 14, 1962.

Born in Lowell on September 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Alcide Champagne and the late Celeda (Boucher) Champagne. Paul grew up in Lowell and received his education in the city's schools, including St. Louis de France School.

He proudly served his country from 1958 to 1964, first with the United States Army and later with the National Guard.

Paul was a hard worker throughout his life. In his younger years he was employed by the Courier-Citizen, and he later worked for Dracut Tire and for E.A. Wilson Oil on Broadway Street. He spent fifteen years as a truck driver for Dracut Sewer Service, where his dependability and strong work ethic were well known.

In his free time, Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing, and above all he treasured the time he spent with his family. Among his fondest memories were the fishing trips he took with his children when they were young, days on the water that his family will always hold close.

Paul was predeceased by his son, Robert Paul Champagne, and by his daughter, Paula Champagne, who passed away in infancy. He was also predeceased by his sister, Dolores "Dolly" Gauvreau.

In addition to his wife Jacqueline, he is survived by his sons, Ronald Champagne of Lowell, and David Allen Champagne and his wife Mary of Ohio, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In accordance with Paul's wishes, there will be no services and no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
