Richard J. Walsh, age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for the past 6 years, formerly of Somerville, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
He was the beloved husband of Kathryn J. (Wiley) Walsh, with whom he celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2026.
Born in Medford on November 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Walsh and the late Mary A. (Locchi) Walsh.
Richard was raised in Somerville, attended Somerville schools and graduated from Somerville High School.
Following high school, he served in the Army National Guard for several years.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver and was a member of Teamsters Local # 25.
He enjoyed many activities including playing golf in Myrtle Beach, SC as well as golfing at the many area golf courses. In addition, he enjoyed dining out with his family at the Capitol Grill in Burlington and DiMillo’s On The Water Restaurant in Portland, ME. He was an avid photographer and the Portland Lighthouse in Maine was one of his favorite subjects to photograph.
Richard’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter. He loved and adored them all dearly.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children, Donald M. Walsh, of Melbourne, FL, David A. Walsh, of Half Moon Bay, CA, Karyn M. Walsh, of Peabody and Kristen A. Duran, of Tewksbury: his nine grandchildren, Donald Walsh, Jr., Alyssa, Brayden, Evan, Cameron, Madelyn, Jay, Kevin, and Shantal: his great granddaughter, Reign: two sisters, Caren Santaniello, of Largo, FL and Cathy Howe, of Everett. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, August 8th, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, immediately followed by prayers to be offered in the funeral home.
