John M. Lynch, Sr. of Winchester passed away on July 16 at 85 after a period of declining health. Raised in Medford, he attended Malden Catholic, where he excelled as a football player and attended school dances with his future wife, Marguerite Breslin. He went on to attend Boston College while working various jobs to cover his tuition, graduating in 1963 with a degree in Finance. In November of that same year, he and Marguerite began their marriage that would span nearly 63 years.
Settling in Barrington, Rhode Island and then Melrose, John began a career in finance that lasted 25 years, working for CIT and other financial institutions. They were blessed with 5 children and John embraced fatherhood, coaching baseball, sledding at Seven Bumps and creating lasting memories on family vacations to Cape Cod, Rockport, Maine and Disney World. For several years he and Marguerite owned and operated D’Errico-McGlynn Flowers in Medford, one of many challenges they took on together.
In retirement John and Marguerite traveled whenever possible and celebrated the arrival of 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A stroke in 2017 robbed him of his mobility and independence, but he adapted to his new circumstances with determination. With Marguerite by his side as his devoted caregiver, he persevered and never lost his trademark sense of humor.
