Laconia-Dorothy Elizabeth Flower, 90, formerly of Bishop Brady Apartments, Court Street, Briacrest Estates, and October Lane in Gilford died on Thursday morning, September 21, 2006 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a brief illness.
Dorothy was born on October 10, 1915 in Greenville, NH, the daughter of the late Camille S. and Olive E. (Nault) Bourgeois. She attended Keene State College, Plymouth State College, and was a 1934 graduate of Mount St. Mary’s in Hooksett.
Prior to her retirement, along with her husband Stanley Flower, Dorothy assisted in the operation of Flower Medical Center Pharmacy, Spring Street, and the former Flower Funeral Home, which was located on Union Avenue. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia, where she was the former choir director, as well as an organist and soloist. She was a piano student of Harry Whittemore, and was a concert pianist. She performed throughout New England at weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Emblem Club, the St. Joseph Ladies Guild, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Laconia Country Club, and was a founding member of the Altrusa Club. For many years Dorothy wintered in Florida and was the choir director and organist at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in New Port Richey, and was a member of Seven Springs Country Club in Florida, returning to Laconia full-time in June of 2000.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Stanley K. Flower in 2003.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Cedric Flower of Charlton, MA; a granddaughter Lara Simmons of Tivoli, NY; and two great grandchildren, Grace and Madeline both of Tivoli, NY. Her dear friend Theresa H. Dargie of Franklin, NH, also survives her.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski pastor of the church celebrated the mass. Burial will take place in the family lot at St. Lambert Cemetery at a later date. There were no visiting hours.
