Hendrik “Hank” Wynands, 92, of Ojai, California, passed away on June 25 th, 2026.
Hank was born in Amsterdam, Holland on March 6, 1934.
Hank and his beloved late wife Nancy Wynands married in 1956 and moved from
Holland to the United States 68 years ago. They always said that becoming US citizens
and living in the United States was something they were so proud of.
Hank has resided in the beautiful community of Ojai for the past 28 years.
Hank and Nancy had two sons; Michael and Danny. The family traveled the world as
Hank worked as a construction coordinator in the Motion picture and Television industry,
overseeing the building of sets and stages, supervising construction teams, managing
materials and coordinating logistics contributing to the physical building and realization
of film sets across multiple decades bringing production designs to life.
He began his career in the film industry in the 1950’s. Some of Hank’s most notable
Hollywood films included; The Way West, The Devil’s Brigade, Green Berets, The Paper
Chase, the original Willy Wanka & the Chocolate Factory, Young Frankenstein, The
Karate Kid Part II, Brubaker, and Copycat.
Hank enjoyed a notable collaboration with director Mel Brooks on several of his films
highlighting Hank’s role in realizing the detailed, often elaborate sets required for
Brook’s Parady and comedy style.
In recent years one of Hank’s favorite outings was his weekly Tuesday “Coffee Group”
gathering at the Ojai Soule Park Golf Course.
Hank is survived by his son Dan and his wife Wendy, his grandson Harry and his wife
Laura, his grandson Jack and Hank’s sister Kitty along with many nieces and nephews.
Hank is preceded in death by his son Michael and his wife Nancy.
Hank will be greatly missed by his family who knew him as “PA”, “OPA” and “Henkie” as
well as his friends and all that knew him. He was a very loving and lively man who loved
telling Hollywood stories and captivating his audience.
