
Janette (Smith) Grubbs, 85, of Anderson, Indiana passed away on July 1, 2026 at Sugar Fork Crossing following a lengthy illness.
Janette was born (a twin) on September 16, 1940 in Bastrop, Louisiana to Hubert and Lois Smith. She graduated from Bastrop High School in 1958 and attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe for one year.
She married Jerry Grubbs on August 6, 1961 and while raising their family, together, they served the Church of God for over sixty four years in Pastoral and Educational roles. Jan was known for her outgoing personality, warm “hi y'all”, and the exercise of her spiritual gift of hospitality.
Her personal work experience was in banking in Louisiana. Indiana and Tennessee and in public education at Park Place Elementary School and Highland High School.
Jan was a traveler. Most, not all fifty states in car and RV; more than twenty foreign countries by ship, plane and train; She has gone through the Berlin Wall. walked the China wall and climbed Mount Fuji in Japan, visited Korea where her husband served in the U. S. Army; She visited the Holy Land, volunteered in Kenya, East Africa helping set up the KIST Library, and made several mission trips to Honduras with Heart to Honduras. And she seldom missed an opportunity to shop.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jerry Grubbs; two children, Kimberly (David) Farlow and Keith Grubbs; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Grubbs; two sisters, Annette (Don) McIntyre and Sylvia Goyne; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Farlow, Daniel (Amy) Farlow, Timothy Farlow, Josh P. Tellez, Larissa (Scott) Sturm, Jessica Morgan, Katie (Kyle) Hutzel, Olivia (Tyler) Glanz, and Brendan Grubbs; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Lois (Priest) Smith.
A celebration of life service will be held at Chesterfield Community Church of God on Saturday, July 11, 2026 led by Pastors Dr. David Coplin and Dr. Jonathan Grubbs and Worship Leader Woody Wright. Visitation hours are 9:30 to 11:00 with the service beginning at 11:00.
Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, Indiana.
